As Rush embarks on new community-based health initiatives, we are expanding our participation in the national Walk With a Doc program, which encourages community members to walk together to promote increased physical activity.
West Side Walk to Wellness: Walk With a Doc is an eight-week community walking program. The hour-long walks will take place on Saturday mornings, through August 12. Rush employees and community members of all ages are encouraged to participate.
Participants will meet at 10 a.m. outside of New Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, 4301 W. Washington Blvd. They will hear brief health tips from a physician at Rush before walking in beautiful Garfield Park.
Rush now is offering Rush University students a free shuttle bus to and from the church. The bus will pick up students at 9 a.m. Saturdays in front of the Rush Bookstore, 600 S. Paulina Ave., and will leave the church at 11:15 to return to campus.
Water and a healthy snack will be provided weekly to all walkers. The first 50 walkers who register to participate will receive a free Rush T-shirt and pedometer.
Registration for the West Side Walk to Wellness is encouraged. You can register by calling (800) 757-0202.
