This educational activity will address the knowledge gap with regards to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) safety. High rates of safety incident reporting in MRI across all national academic medical centers. It is estimated that adverse events occur in ~10% of hospital admissions, with about 40-50% of these adverse events considered to be preventable (1).
Often in MRI discussions of adverse events, the focus tends to be on magnet related incidents but incidents can occur at a larger scale that negatively affect the patient. In accordance with the revised requirements for diagnostic imaging from The Joint Commission (TJC) that MRI technologists participate in ongoing education and training in safe MRI practices, the content presented will cover each important MRI safety topic specified by TJC.
In addition, the content presented will greatly expand the knowledge base of health care professionals such as; MRI technologists, radiologists, imaging nurses, MRI physicists, MRI directors and managers.
